Meant to be displayed as a vertical diptych, I was inspired by "A Near Miss" and "Exhibiting the Weapon" by John Wilde which are two paintings that interact with each other conceptually and visually. I wanted to portray my vision of the female face, and the simplicity of calligraphy-like strokes creates contrast with the more complex nature of a dual composition. Additionally, the bold difference between the red brushstrokes and the gold background draws the viewer in and keeps it recognizable.
